Matcha in Japanese translates to ‘ground tea’, deriving from the way it is made. The tea fields are covered from sunlight before harvest, which happens once per year. As a result of the decreased light, the tea leaves produce increasing amounts of chlorophyll and amino acids. The leaves are picked, steamed, dried and grounded into a fine powder.
Suggested use:
Pour hot water on your bamboo whisk before using, or soak it for a minute in hot water to soften the bamboo before whisking your matcha. Clean your whisk with water after use and store in a dry place until next use.
Add 1/2 to 1 tsp of matcha powder into your glass or cup, and add a bit of warm water. Whisk well.
For matcha tea: add hot water, no more than 80°. Sweetener to taste.
For matcha latte: add hot frothed milk, no more than 80°. Sweetener to taste.
For iced matcha latte: add sweetener to taste, then add ice cubes and cold frothed milk.
